GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Power Market Operator manages AECC’s generation portfolio in real time across two Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs), ensuring economic dispatch while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and submit generation and resource offers in two Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) ensuring economic and strategic alignment with AECC and within the rules and regulations of the RTOs.
- Continuously monitor AECC’s real-time demand and generation in both RTO markets and take appropriate action to mitigate financial impacts.
- Determine fuel needs for AECC’s online generation resources in RTOs and communicate requirements to the AECC Fuels Department.
- Review Day-Ahead Market (DAM) portfolio positions for accuracy and compliance with market rules and standards.
- Acquire transmission reservations to meet AECC’s operational requirements using the Open Access Same-Time Information System (OASIS).
- Create and submit electronic tags (e-Tags) to schedule physical energy transfers that meet AECC's load obligations including bilateral settlement schedules.
- Monitor commercial customer activity and implement economic or reliability-based load interruptions when necessary.
- Follow operational directives and instructions issued by Reliability Coordinators (RCs), Transmission Operators (TOPs), or Load Balancing Authorities (LBAs) to maintain compliance.
- Exhibit a high degree of situational awareness to respond effectively to ever-changing system and market conditions.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform well under pressure and collaborate effectively with others in a high-stakes environment.
- Due to our obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to our customers, the ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and the ability to work outside your regularly scheduled office hours when necessary is an essential function of the job.
- Execute other related duties as assigned to support the team and operational objectives.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Maintain awareness of and compliance with applicable laws and regulations from various regulatory entities, internal policies, procedures, and directives. Ensure ongoing monitoring and timely incorporation of any changes to maintain adherence to compliance standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma and 0–2 years of experience in energy markets, utility operations, power generation, or a related technical/operations environment.
Ability to pass a background check and any required NERC reliability certifications or training within a specified timeframe.
