GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Provides knowledge, expertise and support in the area of taxation by preparing tax returns, projecting future tax liabilities, researching issues and monitoring compliance of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations; assists in providing an assessment of the cooperatives' corporate risk and thereby achieve prudent insurance coverage while monitoring coverage levels necessary to meet contractual obligations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides advice to AECC, AECI, ERMCO, TPI and member cooperatives regarding tax accounting, federal,state and international laws and other statutes, to reduce tax liabilities, both domestically and internationally, to the extent possible.
- Prepares various tax returns and corresponding work papers such as corporate income tax, state franchise and excise tax, international and workers compensation trust returns.
- Assists in coordinating with Finance & Administration and Planning Rates & Dispatching Divisions to generate accurate tax liability projections. Advises other cooperative divisions on tax matters, as necessary.
- Prepares Patronage/Capital Credit allocations for AECC, AECI and ERMCO.
- Reviews current Internal Revenue Code (IRC) and any proposed tax changes for their effect on cooperative business, such as recommending procedural changes to limit tax liabilities and complying with IRS regulations. Review international tax updates for changes that may effect ERMCOs international businesses.
- Works with auditors from various jurisdictions by maintaining complete work records, cooperatives' tax documents and correspondence to support AECC, AECI and ERMCO's tax positions in pertinent matters and reviewing auditors' tax liability interpretation and financial statement footnote disclosures.
- Assists in developing and monitoring systems' information necessary to disclose deferred tax liabilities required by ASC 740: Income Taxes.
- Creates and maintains a tax depreciation schedule, which computes tax depreciation expense and investment tax credits for the current fiscal year and all preceding years
- Assists in preparation of financial statements and operating budgets by providing journal entries and other input on income tax and corporate insurance and by assisting in the timely payments of cooperative tax liabilities.
- Assists in the research and development of the cooperative's tax position on issues of importance to G&T cooperatives, including patronage dividend allocation and retirement, Section 277 of the IRC, and other pertinent areas, as necessary.
- Corresponds with federal, state and international taxing authorities regarding notices, assessments, and other inquiries.
- Assists in evaluating and advising management of insurance policy coverage's and their adequacy and in securing insurance agents quotations on various types of property, liability, and other insurance premiums and evaluating their validity.
- Due to our obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to our customers, the ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and the ability to work outside your regularly scheduled office hours when necessary is an essential function of the job.
- The ability to handle stress and work well with others are essential functions of this position.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
- Maintain awareness of and compliance with applicable laws and regulations from various regulatory entities, internal policies, procedures, and directives. Ensure ongoing monitoring and timely incorporation of any changes to maintain adherence to compliance standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, plus at least 5 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
