GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Responsible for leading and supervising a team of technical professionals whose mission is to meet the generation engineering needs of Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Corporation and its Member Cooperatives. This includes managing projects, including working with other departments, vendors and contractors to ensure that all aspects of the project are running smoothly, completed on time, within budget, and with the necessary standards of quality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervises and leads a team of engineers and analysts, including monitoring performance, coaching and mentoring, disciplinary actions and assuring a high level of work quality.  
  • Set direct reports’ work priorities to align with departmental priorities and support departmental workflow commitments.  
  • Participates in developing Generation Engineering department strategies and executes strategy with direct reports.  
  • Provides input to Managers and Director for setting technical direction for the Generation Engineering department.  
  • Ensures engineering standards and technical direction adhered to by direct reports.  
  • Develops project plans, budgets, and schedules for mechanical engineering projects.  
  • Provides engineering support, project management, and communications for mechanical engineering projects.  
  • Creates engineering designs as applicable and as needed.  
  • Responsible for overseeing equipment installation, maintenance, testing, and resolving technical issues at project locations.  
  • Reviews and approves/stamps engineering designs as applicable and as needed.  
  • Leads troubleshooting efforts and participates in continuous improvement activities.  
  • Supervises electrical engineers engaged in multidisciplinary engineering work related to the design and review of capital improvements for AECC’s generation fleet.
  • The team prepares definition documents, detailed calculations, drawings, and specifications, and this role may serve as the engineer, program lead, or project lead when needed.
  • The position also supports project management by aligning engineering objectives with organizational goals, ensuring quality and safety standards are met, and making sure the team is properly trained and equipped to meet project demands.  
  • Responsible for supporting and executing North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) compliance requirements applicable to generation, protection and control systems, and associated plant electrical equipment.
  • This role ensures that all engineering activities, system configurations, and documentation meet applicable NERC Reliability Standards and are maintained in an audit-ready condition.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CONT'D

  • In addition to overseeing the electrical engineering team’s daily operations, this role supports long-term strategic planning. It works with others to identify and develop new projects and opportunities and helps establish and implement policies and procedures that advance organizational goals.  
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities may include but are not limited to interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.  
  • Represents the Generation Engineering department in a professional and ethical manner to all internal teams, Member Cooperatives, Consultants, Suppliers, and all other External Entities.
  • Delivers superior customer service to internal and external customers.  
  • Due to our obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to our customers, the ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and the ability to work outside your regularly scheduled office hours when necessary is an essential function of the job.  
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.  
  • Maintain awareness of and compliance with applicable laws and regulations from various regulatory entities, internal policies, procedures, and directives. Ensure ongoing monitoring and timely incorporation of any changes to maintain adherence to compliance standards.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university, plus a minimum of 5 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience with a strong emphasis on engineering design within the electric utility industry.  
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles and practices as well as industry standards and regulations. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical abilities, with a keen attention to detail.  
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.  
  • The ability to handle stress and work well with others.  
  • Possess a strong background in electrical engineering, including the understanding of relay calculations and programming of electronic relays and designs protection schemes.  
  • Expertise in PLC Programming, SCADA systems, control network design, advanced control strategies, and control systems for generation and substation equipment.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Professional Engineering (PE) License in the state of Arkansas.  Master’s degree in engineering or a related field.
