Technician I - II - Substation & Transmission

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Provides the technical skills and responsibility required to soundly construct, properly maintain, and reliably operate power delivery systems.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs the installation, maintenance, and testing programs for AECC's or Member Cooperatives' substations, transmission lines, and delivery points.  
• Ensures compliance with AECC's Prescribed System Maintenance and Testing Program and NERC compliance and recordkeeping associated with AECC maintenance and tracking forms and documents.  
• Participates in the dispatch of inventory of parts and supplies used in substation maintenance and transmission line construction, inspection, and maintenance procedures.  
• Reads substation data. Collects and logs data. Visually inspects equipment at each meter location and reports problems.  
• Maintains and uses test equipment and tools used for construction, operations, and maintenance of substation equipment including breakers, transformers, regulators, switches and transmission lines.  
• Performs tests on AECC's or member cooperatives' systems using AECC's test equipment and procedures.  
• Assembles, installs, tests, calibrates and maintains meters, relays, communication, control, stored energy, lighting, climate control, transformers, switches, breakers, regulators, communications equipment, transmission lines and associated systems.  
• Performs the inspection, use and maintenance of AECC's mobile substations.  
• Instructs and trains technician apprentice on technical, operational and safety standards.  
• Participates in safety meetings on a monthly basis, including technical topics. Implements safety in the work area.  
• Participates in coordinating the installation of parts and supplies used for construction and maintenance.  
• Must be able to work with minimal supervision on assigned projects, including logging and maintaining documents suitable for NERC compliance.  
• Advises other AECC personnel, AECI personnel, and Member Cooperatives' personnel, upon request, with tasks relating to this area of responsibility and assists them in the performance of their duties in times of need.  
• Successful completion of prescribed NLC course lessons in Power Delivery Department training program or other prescribed training program as required.  
• Participates in Safety Advantage Program.  
• Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.  
• The ability to handle stress and work well with others are essential functions of this position.  
• Due to our obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to our customers, the ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and the ability to work outside your regularly scheduled office hours when necessary is an essential function of the job.  
• Maintain awareness of and compliance with applicable laws and regulations from various regulatory entities, internal policies, procedures, and directives. Ensure ongoing monitoring and timely incorporation of any changes to maintain adherence to compliance standards.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Technician I 

Technician II 

• High School Diploma or GED, plus 5 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
• As a condition of employment, this position requires a valid driver’s license, post-offer fit for duty physical and a pre-employment drug test.Must be able to pass a DOT physical. 
• Must successfully pass the following test: CAST.
• Must have a clear understanding of all aspects of utility power plant operation including principles of combustion, heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, electrical theory, water treatment, etc.
• Must have a good working knowledge of the proper operation and location of all plant equipment.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Ability to pass a Substation and Transmission Technician II qualification tests within 1 year.  

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Associate Degree in Electronics, Civil/Electrical Engineering Technology, Construction Management or equivalent.
• Formal training and/or Certification in Circuit Breaker, Power Transformer, and/or Transmission Line Maintenance and Testing.
• Industrial Certification in Hydraulics Management, oil-filled equipment or other large industrial machinery would be preferred.
• Mobile Crane Operator Certification. Training and Certification in Doble, Megger, Dilo, and similar test equipment.
• Journeyman Electrician, Industrial Electrician, or Master Electrician License.  
• Valid CDL Class A driver's license

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• Position requires overnight travel throughout the state of Arkansas and respond when required during irregular work hours including nights, weekends and holidays. 
• Successful completion of prescribed NLC course lessons in Power Delivery Department training program or other prescribed training program as required.
