Special Equipment Operator II (Ozark, AR)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of special equipment including, but not limited to, tree cutter and forestry mulching equipment used to facilitate the adequate right of way clearance for distribution and/or transmission power lines. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drives and operates ROW vehicles and equipment and able to safely and efficiently complete tasks and projects.  
  • Performs daily inspection and maintenance of chainsaws and safety equipment; must be able to safely and efficiently operate chainsaws. Notifies supervisor in the event of safety hazards.  
  • Performs right of way clearing duties, to include the following: bucket work, climbing work, ground clearing, cutting, chipping, piling, burning, and other disposal of brush.  
  • Safely operates special equipment to control vegetation along right of way.  
  • Inspect ROW in front of equipment to flag obstacles (i.e. phone pedestals, guy wire, septic tanks/septic systems, water and gas lines/meters, etc.).  
  • Perform traffic control duties around work area as needed.  
  • Must understand general safety rules and policies and promote good relations with other crew members, patron cooperatives, and the general public.  
  • The ability to handle stress and work well with others are essential functions of this position.  
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.  
  • Due to our obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to our customers, the ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and the ability to work outside your regularly scheduled office hours when necessary is an essential function of the job.  
  • Maintain awareness of and compliance with applicable laws and regulations from various regulatory entities, internal policies, procedures, and directives. Ensure ongoing monitoring and timely incorporation of any changes to maintain adherence to compliance standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

6 months related experience and/or training.  

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

As a condition of employment, this position requires a valid driver’s license, post-offer fit for duty physical, pre-employment drug test, and must be able to pass DOT physical. 

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Commercial Applicator Technician.  

Temporary Traffic Control.  

Valid Class A or B CDL.  

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Outside working environment to include uneven and difficult terrain, wherein there are hazardous working conditions and potentially life-threatening situations exist (fire, chemicals, electrical sources, heights, dangerous people, etc.) all the time per job duties and responsibilities. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Must be able to travel to various locations and stay overnight as required to complete work assignments.

Must be able to work extra hours when necessary and report to work whenever needed during non-scheduled working periods.
