GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Assists in managing the maintenance of the power plant to insure the continuous, smooth operation of the plants in normal, abnormal or emergency situations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates maintenance activities and outage planning; develops and implements a planned maintenance program for the assigned power plants.  
  • Reviews and recommends appropriate changes in plant equipment, design, or existing policies and procedures to maximize plant efficiency and reliability and minimize maintenance expense.  
  • Maintains records of completed maintenance and repairs, reviews records for identification of equipment problems and initiates corrective action.  
  • Reviews plant work orders daily and schedules maintenance personnel to perform work as required.  
  • Maintains familiarity with and adheres to all applicable internal AECC policies and procedures regarding NERC and FERC compliance and provides training and direction to plant maintenance personnel to ensure compliance.  
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.  
  • Directs training program and reviews all aspects of plant maintenance and ensures all applicable laws, regulations, and permit requirements are adhered to.  
  • Works with personnel during turbine generator inspections and repairs and other maintenance projects as necessary and as appropriate subject to the approval of the Plant Superintendent.  
  • Requisitions spare parts and supplies as needed and recommends changes in inventory levels.  
  • Inspects plant equipment routinely, including equipment located at remotely located hydroelectric turbine and combustion turbine plants, and determines the need for maintenance.  
  • Procures equipment, material, and services required for maintenance of the assigned plant or plants; recommends changes for inventory levels.  
  • Observes plant maintenance and construction work in progress and monitors outside contractors working on plant property.  
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Plant Manager in implementing safety programs at the plant.  
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.   • Due to our obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to our customers, the ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and the ability to work outside your regularly scheduled office hours when necessary is an essential function of the job.  
  • The ability to handle necessary stress and work reasonably well with others are essential functions of this position.  
  • Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.  
  • Maintain awareness of and compliance with applicable laws and regulations from various regulatory entities, internal policies, procedures, and directives. Ensure ongoing monitoring and timely incorporation of any changes to maintain adherence to compliance standards.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associates degree in related technical field plus at least 5 or more years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.  

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid driver's license and the ability to legally operate commercial motor vehicles under 26,000 pounds.  

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

1-2 years of supervisory experience is preferred.

While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock; frequently exposed to work in high, precarious places, outdoor weather conditions; and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, wet or humid conditions, vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; and ability to adjust focus. 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints, schematics, instruction manuals, etc.
  • Must be mechanically inclined and mechanical coursework is desired.
  • Must be able to properly use a wide range of hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, etc.
  • Must be skilled in working with and through others.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.  
  • Must have a working knowledge of the proper maintenance and repair of all power plant mechanical systems including boiler, steam turbine/generator, hydroelectric turbine/generator, fans pumps, piping and valves, and air compressors.
  • Must be knowledgeable in metallurgy and welding. Must be familiar with OSHA rules and regulations.
